LOL Abra, you are being too negative. We need to be more positive. This is good news right...right? Hello?

It’s really too bad for Dave Foreman, he no longer has a place to sell his trimmed cards.
Always looking for high end Nuggets cards, current players and Rare 90's/00's!
Player PC - Antonio McDyess, Danilo Gallinari, Gary Harris, Tim Duncan

Re: Conglomo PSA buys SGC
I really can't tell which direction they're going to take this... keep SGC around as a 'cheap' option, but probably raise prices slightly to make up for the acquisition and just slowly fade it out in 5-10 years... or scrap it immediately and run some brief promo where SGC slabs can be crossed over to PSA, just to get even bigger market share and push BGS further into the dust.
I never did end up subbing all the stuff I mostly still have. I just could not decide between SGC/CGC and now am glad I held off. I now get to decide if I want to wait for a PSA promo like what they had in January, though this acquisition gives me less hope for that, or do I just shrug off that I dislike the new CGC flip and go with them.
I did get asked frequently at the show where I had a table some weeks ago "why don't/didn't you grade this?"

I'd be careful with CGC, my one experience with them wasn't good. I also can't stomach the thought of ever giving rat turner any money / supporting anything that he benefits from. BGS seems like they're reformulating and making a go at regaining the market and hopefully they succeed in doing that, although I wouldn't say that any of the third party graders are completely innocent in corruption / incompetence.daeve wrote: Sat Mar 02, 2024 12:09 pm I really can't tell which direction they're going to take this... keep SGC around as a 'cheap' option, but probably raise prices slightly to make up for the acquisition and just slowly fade it out in 5-10 years... or scrap it immediately and run some brief promo where SGC slabs can be crossed over to PSA, just to get even bigger market share and push BGS further into the dust.

It's a shame that PSA bought SGC, I kinda' liked their tuxedo slabs. I also really like TAG grading, their slabs are gorgeous, a definite option for PC stuff.

Hey, long time no posting from me... but I'm going with a combo of TAG and BGS I believe. Still have all that stuff sitting waiting to be graded from years ago haha. TAG is currently running a nice discount promo, though it doesn't say when the promo ends.
Any first-hand accounts of using them since I was last here?
After thinking about it for years [literally!] I have decided PSA and Nat Turner get no more of my money and the TAG holders do look very nice.

I have a lot of love for TAG, their slabs are gorgeous, although I've never graded with them for the simple reason that they do not have inner sleeves for their slabs. I get it, they want the ultimate clarity, but I really want that inner sleeve. They also don't show the sub grades on the slab as far as I know, but you can see all the data on why your card got the grade it got on their site database. Last thing is TAG slabs are kinda' fragile, but they stated, if I remember correctly, that it's a security feature in case someone tries to do an 'ol switcheroo on the card they initially graded.
I'm still doing grading with BGS, I think they have the best slab in the business because of the inner sleeve, with TAG being a very close second. BGS slabs are also built like tanks compared to every other slab out there.
If you do go with TAG for your next round of grading, please let us know how it works out. There is some stuff that I'd grade with them, like Finest cards with the protective coating and cards made of wood, or acetate.
You've made the right choice, Turner doesn't deserve any of your money.

Don't expect TAG to be anything other than a nice slab.
Some funny authentication failures.

Damn hadn't heard this before, good to know! I still am planning to go with kind of a 50/50 submission to TAG and BGS. This info helps decide what's going where though, so thanks for that.AbraCalabro wrote: Mon Nov 10, 2025 12:35 pmSup dude, welcome back.daeve wrote: Mon Nov 10, 2025 9:37 am Hey, long time no posting from me... but I'm going with a combo of TAG and BGS I believe. Good to know as well, was not expecting them to be perfect. As someone who has collected pre-90s Panini and early soccer and boxing, I have seen egregious errors plenty from PSA/BGS/SGC in this vein. Perhaps TAG will get better, they at least have more of a "we're new, still working out the kinks" excuse than the other major graders.

Just curious what you're going with now that BGS has been acquired by the psa ownership group. Personally, it's TAG or raw for me.daeve wrote: Thu Nov 27, 2025 11:42 amGood to know as well, was not expecting them to be perfect.
