I have recently started building out a collection for one of my other non-sports fandoms, The Walking Dead. I'm not really a figure collector or into a lot of the merch, but I do like the cards that were released in the earlier years by Cryptozoic. I became a fan of the show first, before going back to the source material and reading the entire run of the comics. While the show's quality definitely fell off in the later seasons, and I don't really care for all the spinoffs, when the show was in its prime, it was easily my favorite tv show ever. I have recently started another re-watch of the earlier seasons, and it motivated me to build a collection of the cards. I'm focusing mostly on the autographs and wardrobe watches from the first few seasons' characters. The wardrobe relics in the first couple of years of releases are cool because the backs of the cards give pretty specific provenance to the relics, and in a lot of cases, the card fronts feature photos of the characters wearing that specific relic featured on the card.
Anyway, this has been another pretty fun PC to build, since pro sports releases have been pretty uninspiring to me lately.
I was a fan of the show for the first 5 or so seasons. I had a few gripes like when they made a lot of the first season so drawn out like it was anime filler, and they did a lot of the same in the later seasons, but it was generally really good.
I was a fan of the comics first, and knew and met Robert Kirkman before he blew up with the success of the comic and the show.
The first issue of the comic came out in October 2003 and oh boy do I wish I would have picked up a bunch of the issues of #1.
I met him about a year later at a local comic shop and got an issue of a comic book signed. I'm a big Punisher fan, and he wrote a 1 shot of Punisher 2099 where the daughter of Punisher & Electra took over his mantle and tried to teach her son to take over for her because she was dying.
It's odd how things turn out too, since Shane (Jon Bernthal) ended up playing Frank Castle/Punisher too.

Great stuff man! I've also found myself gravitating towards non-sports stuff recently. It's a nice change of pace.
