Why I don't buy UFC fighters past 2013 rookies

Post by workingclasscards »

I don't buy any UFC fighters past the 2012 (Khabib, Ronda) and 2013 (McGregor, Amanda) rookies because that was the last rookie class during UFC's growth and expansion period.
Once the UFC started fight uniforms, they went into a conservative mode where they no longer spend the money required to make their fighters mainstream stars.
The UFC used to have "world tours" where fighters would have several press conferences to promote ONE event.. Now fighters have one press conference during fight week, which is not enough time to generate buzz that leads to more PPV buys.
UFC has gotten complacent with the guaranteed amount of money promised by ESPN to host events on ESPN+ that they no longer put any effort into promoting stars so they can get additional PPV buys.
When these factors are taken into consideration, its not a surprise that high end Khabib, Ronda, McGregor, and Amanda cards consistently go for four figures or more.
Yes, I understand some Sean O' Malley, Adesanya, Shavikat, Khamzat, Hasbulla (lol) go for a lot, but I think many people spending a lot of money on their cards will get burned in the long run (assuming they are buying as store of value and not PC)

Let me know if you agree or disagree with this premise.

EDIT: My only exception to this rule is Weili, but that's because she has a whole country behind her as the first Chinese UFC champion (I'll explain this in a future post- GOATS & Unicorns).
