This sucks. Monopolies are bad for the consumer. We all know this. But this is late stage capitalism though. A few companies own all the media (Netflix is now buying Warner Bros too), a few companies own all the technology (Google/Apple/Microsoft), and even in our hobbies like video games (Madden/2K exclusive licenses), and cards (Fanatics/Collectors) a few companies own everything. Even our retailers in the last 20 years have devolved into WalMart and Amazon owning a huge percentage of all retail sales.

I've come to terms with this.

I'm 42 years old. I've only got like 30 years left or something, this isn't a battle for me. I don't have the money or power to battle something like this. This is a battle for the youth, and I don't know how much of an impact they'll be able to make either. All I can do is look longingly and lovingly at the past, and occasionally bitch and moan and sigh, while I enjoy what I can with my time while I have it.

This goes back to a dialogue we had on here about there being enough stupid consumers who will buy anything even in the face of anti-consumer practices, so much that it continues to sustain these companies while they crap on their faithful lemmings.

The problem here is that nat turner is steeped in conflict of interest and that's tied to corruption, he has his own grading company and his own price aggregator that has been revealed in the past to be...dubious, over on another forum. They've gobbled up SGC and now BGS and turner benefits from all this. He also got called out for getting preferential treatment in the past with pictures that he posted himself and the fact that he complained about the upcharge, then piped down about it after getting into a psa ownership position speaks volumes. nat turner is EVERYTHING wrong with sports cards as a hobby today.

Definitely something to think about when a guy who doesn't need the money sell that card. It wouldn't surprise me if it was a stunt to keep eyes on a market that will burn if the sheep don't see stuff like this happening often enough and he's got a lot of money in it.

Such a bummer all around. The worst part is that hobby news, content and social media is dominated by these headlines, effectively giving card collecting the reputation of simply being about making money. It’s more crucial now than ever for collectors to flood the Internet with card talk, collection shares, and meaningful conversation about the non-monetary part of the hobby. I got a lot of work to do in that arena, but that’s my one cent.

That said, I couldn’t care less as someone who doesn’t grade. Happy to pick up a Giannis bags 9 auto for the price of a raw or lower a couple months back. Happy to continue avoiding Psa 9s and 10s.

Yeah pretty much, just parasites being fed on by bigger parasites.

Definitely more crucial for genuine hobbyists to talk about cards and NOT MONEY. I still like TAG, but not sure I'd send anything in if it doesn't have a protective coating, just don't like the lack of an inner sleeve.
