Collectors Helping Collectors

Post by vintagepacers »

I think we had a thread like this over on BO years ago and a piece of mail I got yesterday made me think of it again.

Let's share our stories of times when another collector has helped you out in this hobby. I'll start...

Funny part first. For some reason, there's a seller on eBay that has my account blocked. I have no idea why. In all of my many years on eBay I've never had a bad experience with anyone (buyers or sellers). So I can't think of any reason why anyone would have my account blocked. Luckily I've got a friend in the hobby who is willing to buy things for me when this seller has something I need. I send the money his way, he buys the card and then ships it to me after he receives it. Yesterday's mail was one of those times. This is a card I've been searching for for around 4-5 years since I decided to do the Pacers team set.

Great thread idea, this forum needs some life injected into it lol.

Saw this one on the Wax Museum Youtube a few days / week back. Super cool addition and great gesture from Deadshot.

----------------------------------

I got this card a while back from a buddy of mine who passed away, some of you may remember him from the censorship forums, his user name was myusasets. A wonderful human being, always willing to help out, the guy was an encyclopedia and had a lot of cool stories. When I was talking with him about building this particular set and the only one I was missing was Kobe, he immediately offered to send me the card. I thought that was unfair to him so I offered him at least market value and after some pushing him to take the money, he finally caved and ended up selling it to me at a reduced cost, those were his terms. Super cool dude who I think about from time to time.

That said, here it is, the NON-error version of the card, as it was meant to be:

Agree about the great thread idea (and the need to inject some life here! Just gotta recruit hobby friends to join!)

That is definitely kind of both those collectors for helping you guys out. Dude, myusasets was awesome, what a freakin' collector. Thanks for reminding me about him. I just saw a BO baseball thread (gasp!) with a similar situation where a player collector was gifted two of the last non 1/1 cards he needs for his player collection (https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1605635).

A special shoutout to Connell Collection on Instagram. From the Wax Museum podcast I knew he was collecting the 2013-14 Pinnacle auto set, so I reached out to him regarding the Josh Harrellson & Danny Manning from the set as they are the only autos they have as Pistons players.

He tracked a Danny Manning down for me on CardHobby and shipped it back to the States and forwarded it onto Ship My Cards so I could get it back to Australia. A month or so later I woke up to an Instagram message saying the Harrellson had popped up on eBay for a couple of bucks and sent me the link. When I went to access the link it had already sold. Of course, unprompted he had gone ahead and bought it and shipped to SMC also.

Incredibly grateful for him to go to that effort for a guy who sent him a couple of messages online from the other side of the world!

I'm not sure if he is on here or not and likely many of you are probably aware of his situation, but incase you aren't. He's managed to collect 196/200 of the set and needs the following four cards (Nick Collinson, Scott Skiles, Zydrunas Ilgauskas & Michael FInley). It would be awesome if we could help him in some way.

And if he is on here, thanks again!

RIP myusasets

Doublexthebeast and especially Abra helped me out a ton with reacclimating to the hobby when I got back into things.

But it didn’t stop with their wealth of knowledge. Here’s a Censorship Forums link and prime example of the kind of dude Abra is. This wasn’t even the first time he gifted me stuff.
