improving the checklist

Post by AbraCalabro »

UD is probably my favorite manufacturer, that said, this is one of my favorite designs from them, among many others, but this one is top tier.

2002 UD SP Game Used Edition Authentic Patches and Authentic Autographed Patches are two of the best looking sets from the golden age of basketball cards, unfortunately, the check list is total dog poop. I wish I could get these customs made some how, but I have no idea how to turn these into physical items.

Next up are David Robinson and Scottie Pippen.

Any requests?

02-03 SPGU had a great design. I’m actually casually pursuing the Jersey auto set /100. Agreed that the checklist is pretty bad…though that actually works out nicely for me since it makes it cheaper to put together. I wonder if that had to do with it being the early-ish days of GU memorabilia cards. Your mock ups look incredible and those would be amazing cards of those players.

Did you ever reach out to some of those custom card creators you were seeking out. Would love to see these designs “in the flesh”

hey dude, yeah I love this particular set, bummer about the checklist because if you don't collect any of the more popular players in the set you may have never heard about it, which is what happened to me. I remember seeing a few Kobes and Jordans back in the day and that was it. More recently I've really been enjoying the design, I might pick up multiple KGs and maybe some of the less collected players. They have the /50 autographed patches, but man..............the checklist.....oof.

Thanks for your kind words on the mockups. I'm learning more about the set as I actually work on these and I'm really trying to dial in the details. There are little things I've been improving on and small details that I missed that I had to add in. I still have to do the card backs too lol.

I actually did reach out to When We Were Kids guy but he never responded and some of the guys on here also tried reaching out to the dude on IG and all we got back was tumbleweed and a light breeze, so basically, no response lmao. I don't think there is any one out there that can even make these cards. Back in the day I reached out to a couple guys on BO and they flaked.

Those all look awesome man.

And you’re right on the mark about the checklist being subpar, because from memory the only card I can even remember from it is MJ in Wiz uni. Can’t name anyone else lol.

As far as turning these into a reality, there are a handful of guys I follow on ig that make customs. My guess is that they’d be able to handle this.

Thanks dude, appreciate it.

The only real notables are MJ as you mentioned, Kobe, KG, Antoine Walker, Paul Pierce. These guys also have Auto'd versions /50, but other than that I think there is Shareef (Hawks jersey) and Sprewell in a Knicks jersey.

Any links to their IG? I'd love to see what they've done. I think I might do the backs for a couple more of these and call it quits, this was just a fun little run in Photoshop for a design I really enjoy.

Here's an almost completed SHAQ. I still need to go over some typos, redo the front top portion and need to work on the wheelchair guy logo on the back...maybe do a little work on the "hologram" also lol.

Comparison to a real life KG, adjusting the contrast on the Shaq would get it closer to the effect on the KG. You can see those results with the Pippen and The Admiral.

Oh my goodness I completely missed all the details until you mentioned the edits you need to make on the shaq. The description on the Shaq is amazing, though a shocking amount of it applies to me. Not quite 38 yet, and I don't have a basement, but the rest applies pretty accurately

Def try reaching out to @kardkiller, I’ve seen him do some great stuff. He’s the main guy that comes to mind but I’ll post here again when I have other names.
