Why are Michael Jordan 1985 Prism Jewel Stickers worth so much money?
Can someone tell me Why are Michael Jordan 1985 Prism Jewel Stickers worth so much money? I get that they are considered “his rookie year” but they were stickers that you could pull from a $0.25 machine and just crazy to me that they are worth upwards of $65,000+ for PSA 9. (PSA 10 has never sold but probably 150,000 or more).

Yeah there's definitely been a group of guys chasing these for the past 2-3 years or so. I want to say it came on the heel of stuff like Kabooms becoming popular. It has that same kind of cartoonish feel to me.
IMO, nobody paid much attention to these back in the day because they're ugly, lol. But just my opinion of course.
This one is only 40K.. Is that a good deal?

To my knowledge these feature the very first refractor or prism-like finish on a sticker/card ever... so I don't think they're going away anytime soon. Despite coming out of a vending machine and featuring no logos of course, they will continue to hold value for the long-term. I have only 1 Kareem to my name but it's a fun card/sticker and I'm hoping to add more in the future.

Weren’t these suddenly hitting pwcc and goldin auctions regularly during the pumpdemic?
Always thought they were hideous but I get the draw.

I collect Masters of the Universe cards from the 80’s and a fair number of the rarer early 80’s stuff I’ve been able to track down is unlicensed vending machine cards. I think it’s fun as an obscure find for my binder, but I guess I’m not one to put a lot of value on that kind of stuff.daeve wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 5:45 pm To my knowledge these feature the very first refractor or prism-like finish on a sticker/card ever... so I don't think they're going away anytime soon. Like $5 or $10, cool, I’m all for it. 40k.. well, let’s just say I can think of other way nicer licensed cards you could pick up for that. I think the Jordan market is a little insane atm, and probably reflected in the price of these, but I definitely understand the appeal.
