Attending The National '23?
Attending The National '23?
With the show a few days away, figured I'd start a thread for those able to go as well as those who are not able to go.
Feel free to post what you guys find, are looking for, or anything related to the show.
I will be there for a few days and would love to meet some of you fine folks.

I wonder what it is like to be in a card show. You have a chance to take a look of some rare cards and maker offers?

There's many types of card shows, but most would say that The National is the biggest one of the year and there's plenty of things to do on top of looking and buying cards. You get to see many of the rare cards/memorabilia that the auction houses has for sale as well. It's great for kids too, lots of promotions and activities to keep everyone busy. Meet up with other collectors that you only know through social media, have dinner, play some basketball, go trade at nearby hotels are just some of the other things you can do the week of the show. Hard to sum up everything, but you should attend one of these shows to experience it yourself. I think it will be worth your time.siuwongkee wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 3:13 am I wonder what it is like to be in a card show. You have a chance to take a look of some rare cards and maker offers?

No worries, it'll be waiting for you. Hopefully I find some friends to go along with it at the show

It sounds super fun. But flying to us just for a show seems too much for me. Hope some day they will have that in HK. I know they have some in China.dengbang wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 12:47 pmThere's many types of card shows, but most would say that The National is the biggest one of the year and there's plenty of things to do on top of looking and buying cards. Re: Attending The National '23?
I feel silly even sharing this, but it is the only time in the foreseeable future that I consider there being even a slight chance that I would attend the National. I wouldn't fly from CA half or all the way across the country leaving my wife as a single parent for several days, not to mention the cost of it all. But this year, my wife happened to have a live work team meeting in Chicago for the last few days. The meeting was Tuesday and Wednesday and I looked into tagging along and keeping the family there through Saturday or Sunday to attend the National, but she wouldn't be able to watch the kids Thursday or Friday and had to be in Phoenix Friday evening so all in all it just was more headache than it was worth. But it was nice to think for a few moments that I might've been able to attend!

Wasn’t able to take off but I would’ve enjoyed digging in the infinite number of crates.
Forget who posted it, but someone found a Grand Finale for five bucks.

I saw that! I wonder if it was actually hand numbered or backdoor though as there wasn’t a picture of the back. I can’t imagine it getting thrown in a dollar box with hand numbering in the back, but stranger things have happened I guess lol.darz90scardz wrote: ↑Fri Jul 28, 2023 6:24 am Wasn’t able to take off but I would’ve enjoyed digging in the infinite number of crates.

Good point, didn't get to see the numbering. I'd say that's a more likely scenario than a straight goof.mindcycle wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 9:55 amI saw that! I'd still have it as one of the prime candidates for possible dollar bin disasters from a dealer perspective, though. They look so much like the other parallels. I'm picturing someone seeing a common player and not even bothering to flip it over.

I saw the post too, I believe it was a Mookie Blaylock Grand Finale that was on top of the Gold variation. I'd imagine it was the real deal if that was the case.mindcycle wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 9:55 amI saw that! It was the busiest and most active National I've been too.
The saying remains the same, if you see something you want/need go for it. Chances are you won't see it when you come back.

I'm back...and I'm exhausted. No real recap right now, but I'll be recording a podcast and several YouTube videos throughout the course of the week!
