Off topic: who actually grows a card collectors' chat?

Off topic, but I know a few people here run collector groups.
Some friends and I run a chat server for sports card collectors, mostly breaks, trade talk and grading questions, around 650 members now. Most of the people who stick around came through a handful of regulars who keep inviting friends from card shows and local shops.
We wanted to give those regulars a small role, but the default invite numbers were useless. People joined for one break and left, and a couple of throwaway accounts padded everything. We ended up using a tracker that only counts collectors who stay, and the names at the top finally matched who everyone already knew.
Do any of you track this for your groups, or keep it informal?
