The Hobby Boards

But now focus has changed and you don't? Currently I have 6 basketball players I seek cards for my collection daily. I have cards of many other players in my collection that I used to do the same for....but it doesn't happen as often. Here are a few examples:

-90s and 2000s big name players like Shaq, Iverson, Paul Pierce, etc... I have many in my collection and will add here or there is something I like happens to show up, but I don't actively look for them.

-Double rookie class 2012-13 cards(especially rookies like Kyrie, Kawhi, Dame, IT4 and maybe to a lesser extent Jimmy Butler). I have good representation in my collection of 12-13 because this is what brought me back to collecting basketball(Prizm specifically) after stopping in 1996. It will always hold a special importance to me.

After being in many of the Hobby Hangouts, I realize there are a lot of set builders and team specific collectors that this may not apply to, but would love to hear some thoughts. Or just post a card you like from a player you don't normally collect. Or tell me I'm an idiot and I should do better!

I used to search for Sergei Bazarevich and Yinka Dare cards...

I was watching this game as it happened. Hoops made a card of it the following season. I waited for over 10 years to find "the right one" In 2024, I gladly overpaid for it on Comc! The card is usually found < Nm/Mt condition raw when offered. When I found this PSA 9 it was a pop 1 with 0 higher. Since then, there was another one graded 9.If I ever find it available, I will probably buy it too! As dumb as it sounds, I also want the serial number "1207" for the players seen in the image(Yes I need help!)Lol.

I freaking love the Road to the Finals cards, one of the best parts of the 2010s hoops sets that really got bastardized in the 2020s in terms of the designs (did they ever drop them?). I've never seen that version of them and I love that year. The design totally elicits a theater or curtain-esque design for a memorable performance. Beautiful.

Great question Hallco. I have two responses, one more on topic than the other.

1. My player is KD. Used to be a fanboy while he was in OKC. Then hated his selling out to go to the Warriors, so pretty much abandoned picking up his cards. Even though you may still sense the resentment in my tone, I've kinda moved past it and maybe will consider adding more in the future, but man I don't look for them at all anymore.

2. I have a realm of cards I search for which are essentially "random searches". I want to capture the wealth of diversity in players and sets over the history of the league cards so I will go to tcdb and randomly choose a card or two to pursue (I have to like the design). It's the only reason I own the 80s/Kareem/Gervin/Dr. J/90s inserts that I do. And that's great because I love cards so I like that I get to collect stuff I wouldn't otherwise if I stuck to my core Kings/player PCs. Some might call that clutter or fat that I need to trim. But we'll have to agree to disagree haha Plus as an added bonus, I get to have cards that I'm willing to move in favor of more core PC cards if it comes to it. If not, I'm happy to keep em.

...but I see a partial number 6 in there. Good to keep in mind as a contingency plan just in case 1207 never shows up!
