2023-24 Off Season Rumors/News/Chat

Now that Larry is hanging out with the Nuggets we can all start talking about the NBA silly season. How does everyone feel about their teams? The draft? Free agency?

I'm pretty excited for the Raptors finally turning the page on the Championship team and shaking things up a bit. A new coach who's offensive-minded and big on development is a big first change. We should see at the very least a roster shake-up too.

The Pacers have 5 picks and have made it no secret that they're moving some of them. I'm pretty anxious to see what's gonna happen because they've used the last couple years to position themselves for a bigger move I think.

Nuggets will have 37th (from OKC) and 40th picks in the upcoming draft. Maybe they’ll draft another Jokic.. 😄

offseason could be crazy... If Dame and Harden are on the move I feel like there could be a lot of shuffling around.

The Kings are in a spot where I think the likely significant changes needed for them to progress to a 2nd round in the playoffs hinges on internal improvement hinging on versatility: Sabonis gaining confidence in his mid range shooting, Fox being more consistently assertive, Keegan just having overall improvement on both sides of the ball, developing some semblance of a defense.

Any significant roster upgrade should be a reliable two way player. Huerter, Barnes, Keegan, Monk and Davis were unplayable at times defensively. Davion Mitchell is unplayable at times offensively in this system. You can't have 6 of your 9ish players in the rotation as a constant liability on one side of the ball.

Outside of Sacramento: I know it is probably a bad move for the team, but I really hope Dame isn't moved. Yes, they should probably trade him and rebuild around the #3, Sharpe, and Simons plus whatever he nets them, but I like to think that the idea of a player spending his entire 10-15 year career with one team is still doable, hopefully while being somewhat competitive.

I love the coaching hire for Ime Udoka, I think it shows that we are now serious about playoff contention. I was very happy during that press conference where he adressed the issues from before (such as Şengün having barely any playing time in some cases and not being used efficiently) and talked about how he was going to fix them. Hopefully we appear in the play-in next season [praying].

It feels very tricky with having the 4th pick, Wemby and Scoot are off the radar, and I'm very sure we're gonna select one of the Thompson twins, who I don't really know how to feel about. I've heard all the rumors about players possibly coming to Houston (Harden, Brown, even heard some Zion rumors today) and they interest me, but other than Harden, I have no belief that any of them are going to come.

I cant wait for the next season to start, and to hopefully see Wemby and the Spurs face our squad in person.

Sounds like they've been talking with Toronto about OG ( bunch of teams have). He'd be a really good fit there. I just don't know if outside Murray they have anything that interests the Raptors.

Outside of hoping they get Harden to come back - which is 50/50 at best - i don't know what moves they can make to get a lot better.

I would be ridiculously thrilled to add OG, but I agree that without Murray the Raps wouldn't be interested. I just don't think Sacramento would move Murray. His contribution on his rookie contract is just too valuable, not to mention the hope that he has the upside to become a two way third 20ppg scorer for the team. Does Toronto have any interest in Davion? I'm not a trade/contract expert, but I wonder if a Davion + Harrison Barnes S/T with firsts would have any potential.

Problem is the firsts are all gonna be in the 20-30 range which really knocks the value on them down. Not sure that interests them even if it 2+ futures

25 games for Ja. I thought he'd be out until the All-Star break. I wish Adam Silver was commissioner during the Brawl...

I guess that's a better alternative than another decade of lottery futility

I'm not sure how different 25 games is from the 8 he already got. It doesn't seem different enough for a second offense within a couple months. All-Star break-ish sounds right honestly.

Until All Star break would've worked. The way Adam Silver first said it, it was like he found some secret insider information that if he released immediately, then the Finals would no longer be important. It turned out to just be "Yeah it was a gun, guns are bad mkay, you don't go around showing your gun on IG live mkay"
If STERN was still the commissioner though...

Yeah Silver said he didn't want it to become a distraction, but the way he worded it was...really distracting. Not an easy situation to be in and it put him in a tough spot. I thought for sure he would crack down on Ja after being made to look like a fool the first time.

Beal to the Suns is one of the worst self owns by a franchise in a while.

Honestly, I think the Suns are gonna start off good, maybe like 13-4, and then end up crumbling down and failing to meet expectations once again. Kind of reminds me of the Nuggets when they were scoring a ton in the 80s.
Cannot wait for the incredible bench action though!

How's everyone feeling about the draft? I'm optimistic about what the Raptors did. Dick at #13 and Markquis Nowell 2way. I had Bilal and Bufkin as the choices at #13 and was surprised to see Gradey slide - that said hard being disappointed about a guy who shot 40% from three with heavy usage. Very excited about Nowell too. Heard he had an incredible workout with us and his agent was telling teams not to draft him in the second. The kid has a lottery pick skill set and basically (fairly?) his height, 5'7, scares everyone off. We've seen a few short guards outplay their size and i hope this is another case of that.

I'm not the most familiar with this year's lottery but was surprises to see Bilal so high when he seemed to be mocked mostly in the late teens or early 20s. I was even hoping he might fall to the Kings at 24. Oops.

My overall reactions:
1. Whitmore going to Houston at 20 was a huge slide. Potential to be a steal.
2. I actually think the Mavs had an incredible draft. Picking up a few picks in Lively and OMax while also getting a big in Holmes that can play now and be dangerous in PnR with Luka
3. Speaking of Holmes, I'm disappointed Sacramento got nothing for him. I know his value is at its lowest, but if they aren't clearing cap space to take on salary in a trade or in FA to improve the team, seems like a fail to me.

Rafael Stone did it again. Amen Thompson seems like a great player, the only problems I honestly have are his shooting and his form, hopefully that can be fixed. When I saw that Cam Whitmore hadn't been picked yet around the 17th pick, I started hoping so bad. I'm so happy we got him. I heard he didn't get drafted higher because of some health problems and work ethic, but Cam himself said he was fine and the work ethic can be worked on I think. So overall I'm feeling very happy about the draft for the 3rd time in a row. Summer League cannot come any sooner :)

I've managed to stay away from most of the speculation so far, but we are getting close to some real moves now. The Pacers have a lot of cap space and barely any roster spots (I think they might have 1). Something's gonna happen.

I love Fred VanVleet. But if Houston is gonna pay him 40m... "Congrats on the contract and good luck"

I think we're gonna see some of that with guys like FVV and Brook Lopez. They got the ring, now it's time to get the bag.

It'll be interesting to see if we see overpriced contracts on more of the mid-level guys too. Kuzma's talking about wanting $30m, I'm hoping that is not the kind of big move the Kings cleared cap space for last week...
