I remember seeing someone post links to this dude's youtube, had a bunch of high end stuff and sounded like a total Mafioso, someone HAS to remember this. Any one have the link?

Ricky Russo!
Brings back some memories but unfortunately he passed away.
Reminded me of my local card shop owner that I used to go to every week back in the 90's. I enjoyed his videos and still have a couple of freebie cards that he sent to some of his subscribers.
I remember watching him, cardsinfinity, and that middle eastern surgeon who used open high end boxes with a pair of very sharp scissors.
Those days were the beginning of "card influencers" lol

dengbang, thanks so much for the link. sad to read he's gone. i remember a lot of those old school videos in 360 and 480 or even 720 video quality lol, unfortunately those videos are tougher to go back and find again because youtube is riddled with flashy influencer types, i.e. I JUST SPEND 100K AT A CARD SHOW!!!!!!! (SHOCKED FACE)

Of course, no problem. Low visual quality but the content was direct and didn't grab your attention by being over the top. Box breaking was something I looked forward to back then.

Holy moly, I haven’t thought about this legend since then. I’ve probably entered one of his giveaways too.

He always felt very near and dear, since half my family talks like that.

It’s kinda crazy the deterioration of quality card talk in the last five years or so. Forums have fallen out of favor and Blowout is hot garbage now, Facebook is all about sales/flippers/dealers, instagram is the most active but is all pictures, and Reddit/our discord are similar to this forum in that the spirit of it is great, but just needs more activity and discussion!

I miss being able to read about and talk cards.

man you said it better than I can, although I'm amused reading that BO is hot garbage now 8-)

I think in addition to the entropy when it comes to the quality and sincerity of participants, the card manufacturers are also not putting out the best products. Panini does good stuff and I'll give them all the credit when they knock it out of the park, but there just isn't enough variety like there used to be. Fanatics is also awful.
