Best repository of pack odds

As a side quest to my collecting, I've been working on updating pages on TCDB and it got me thinking about whether a website exists as a comprehensive list of sets and corresponding pack odds. Lately, my go-to for this information has been looking up hobby boxes of a particular set on Dave and Adams website because they list out the inserts and pack odds, but this is somewhat hit and miss.

Anyone have any good leads for this? If such a repository does not exist, I have considered starting such a project as a long-term effort to preserve this information.

Thanks in advance.

Beckett is pretty good for set odds. I’ve seen some on there that aren’t on boxes, wonder how real some of those are though.

This would be a great resource. It seems like the info is pretty scattered right now. Maybe we could make a thread and keep editing it as we find them.

My ideal arrangement is to have the source of the odds noted, whether it is from manufacturer website/post, photo of a pack itself, or from a third party source such as Beckett, Cardboard Connection, or someone good with the maths who was able to take info from print runs and work backwards.

Beckett has so-so for me, but that could just be a result of the random cards I have looked for.

I'm happy to have this thread serve as a starting point for that if folks want. I can pull those up into the first post and the date of last edit will show how recent it is.

These are player-specific odds pulled from Blowout for inserts/parallels featuring Jordan that were 1:1000 or tougher. Kenfancypants originally posted it. For the most part they’re accurate. Can just pull the number of cards in the set from Trading Card Database to get the standard pack odds. Although like already mentioned Beckett has them listed already. Would be a good starting point, at least for 90s.

It would be amazing if everyone found packs or boxes that had odds of some kind and uploaded pictures too. It’s nice to have an actual visual to accompany the odds.

I’m mostly looking at 99-00 odds so that could be why it’s worked out better for me. I did a print run calculation for the 99-00 UD Ionix Warp Zone insert that put it at around 15 (only Kobe’s pop report begged to differ at ~20). Beckett had pack odds for the Reciprocal rookies /100 (while no other source had it listed).

It’s a fun exercise for old hobby only cases if any #’s card has pack odds listed.

It is tedious to look up by set though. Some aren’t even found via google and you have to search marketplace and click or modify URL by year.

I purchased a Tuff Stuff Standard Catalog for football resources. I settled with a 2006 edition. I wasn't worried about the prices. But it offers a full checklist of every set for most practical purposes. Most releases also have some release information and alot of pack odds.

I found a used copy for about $12 shipped. Its a heavy thick book vs. the standard Becket monthly. But it is an excellent resource.

I always wondered why upper deck and Fleer had odds of like 1:24 packs but Topps had odds of like 1:1892 packs… a card could literally fall 3 per box but Topps odds would be 1:517

Never understood it

I had not heard of this before, but I will be looking it up now. Thanks for the recommendation!

I actually put together a rudimentary google form for just that purpose lol.

Wow, haven’t thought about Tuff Stuff in a while.

I remember how kids around here basically considered it a “fake” Beckett, rofl.

Leaving the shop with a Tuff Stuff instead of a Beckett was almost as bad as buying multiple packs of different product, getting skunked on inserts and not even hitting base of any of your favorite players.

Those archival type issues would def be useful though.

Thanks for bringing this great resource over to the Boards. I've had it saved as a note on my laptop for over a year because its so helpful.

I’m not sure if there’s a Panini and post-90s equivalent on there too. Would be cool to make this list more comprehensive.

There’s only a few things on Ken’s list that have to be changed, I’ll edit the post when I get a chance to go back through the original BO thread. I remember the 97-98 Finest bronze refractor odds being off, for example.

I feel like the 2000s don't have as many true inserts that were rarer than 1 per box (hot hands and the 2003 upper deck all star game cutouts come to mind as a couple of the rarer inserts), so it might not take all that long to put together.

Yea there still might be more gaps to fill in before 2000 than after when you consider non-mj sets and those with player odds under 1:1,000.

Since there are a lot of basketball collectors in here they may not be aware of baseballcardpedia.com. I really think this site is needed for the other sports. It is well put together with the set list, patch odds, and the photos to show differences in parallels.
