Thoughts? Getting limited / serial numbered cards autographed.

Post by AbraCalabro »

I think getting getting serial numbered / parallel cards, or even inserts autographed ruins the card in question and certainly devalues it.

What do you guys think?

Some examples below.

I've seen base cards signed and those are cool, even higher end base, but stuff like this, if it's signed after release from the manufacturer and it's not an official manufacturer buy back, then it not only lowers value, but I'm not sure I'd even want it.

I love how the game jerseys look autographed, but those legacies? Completely kills them imo. Way too much going on, the sigs detract from the main draw of their blue foil.

So in general I’m not a fan, at least if they’re on inserts or rare parallels. Base though is a whole different story. I’d be ok with say a 93 or 94 Finest base with an ip auto.

I think you’re right about them being devalued too. I remember a bunch of people on Blowjob forums confirming it a long time ago.

I'm generally not a fan of it, but would probably make some rare exceptions. I just feel like there are plenty of other nice cards that could be signed while still "saving" the rare stuff from getting marked up.

I agree with you guys. The legacy cards, even with blue ink, just look weird. The early plain jersey cards are iconic cards on their own but enhanced just a bit with an auto added. Those are the type of cards that work best to add an IP auto.
Always looking for high end Nuggets cards, current players and Rare 90's/00's!

I really dislike it when people alter cards and that includes, of course, in person autographs.

There are so many interesting alternatives to get autographed - photos, balls, etc...
